balaju water garden: now known as mahendra park, it is located five kms north-west of kathmandu. the main attraction here is statue of sleeping vishnu, believed to be a replica of budhanilkantha. twenty-two stone water spouts ornately carved with crocodile heads offer holy bath. the garden also includes many other ponds, some of them containing large and small varieties of fish. adjoining the garden is an olympic-size swimming pool open to the public.
