hiranya verna mahavihar

golden temple or hiranya verna mahavihar: literary meaning gold-coloured great monastery it is located at the kwabahal tole of patan, this three-storied golden pagoda of lokeshwar (lord buddha) was built in the twelfth century by king bhaskar verma. it derives its name fromgilded metal plates covering its front façade. the main priest of this monastery is a young boy who is below twelve years who is replaced after every 30 days of service with another young boy.  inside the temple there are images of mythical beasts and portraits from buddha’s life. with high quality bronze and silver works it is one of the best place to see metal works in patan and is located at walking distance from the main square in north direction. during the visit here, visitors can be worshippers lighting butter lamps.
