when it comes to eating in nepal, there is a saying, “respect your food.” which means do not waste it. because of diverse nature of ethnic people a wide different variety of dishes are also found here. the food of nepal has a strong influence of indian and tibetan culture. some of popular dishes in nepal are

  • momos, stuffed dumplings popularly eaten across himalayas and known as a tibetan food. they can be found everywhere, in restaurants or as street foods. they can be either steamed or fried.
  • thukpa, this tibetan origin dish is a kind of noodles soup which consists of boiled noodles, vegetables and meat.
  • dal bhat, this staple food of nepal is considered to be their national dish. here in a plate separate bowls of rice, curry (dal), pickles and vegetables are served. most of nepalese have dal bhat twice a day.
  • chatamari, this nepalese version of pizza is a thin rice flour crepe topped with delicious topping.
  • bajeko sekuwa, skewered barbeque meat mixed with spices
  • dhindo or dhido, a thick porridge nutritious dish made by mixing salt, water and grounded cornmeal or millet flour or buckwheat flour.
  • selroti, this crispy, sweet, fried, puffy rice flour dish is a cross between doughnut and bagel.
  • yomari, this fish shaped sweet rice dumpling normally served with sweep dip is a festive dish.
  • juju dhau, literary meaning “king of curd”, this buffalo milk sweet dish is popular across bhakatapur.
  • skiarni, a popular curd based dish mixed with spices and fruits.
  • raksi, alcoholic drink made from rice or millets.
  • tongba, sweet alcoholic beverage
  • chaang, alcoholic drink made from fermented rice.
