(located in chorten lam, thimphu):  this tibetan style stupa built in 1974 to honour third druk gyalpo, his majesty jigme dorji wangchuck by queen mother ashi kezang is also known as the thimphu chorten. it is popularly known as “the most visible religious landmark in bhutan”. the images of wrathful deities with their female consorts is depicted on the chhorten. through out the day from morning till night you will find people of all ages circumbulating the chhorten with mini prayer wheels or beads necklace in hands and chanting mantras. it is a great illustration of buddhist culture and architecture. there is a golden spire on the top which glows in the morning when sun’s rays fall on them.
