phajoding monastery, thimphu (located at phajoding-pumola trail, phajoding, bhutan): a 3 hour hike from the nearest road and is located above bhutan’s capital, thimphu. it is about 5 kms from motithang youth centre. it is home to many very sacred buddhist artefacts and gives a good chance to experience traditional customs and practices of buddhism. it got its name from the saint phajo drugom zhigpo, who is believed to have meditated there in the 13th century and is considered to be one of the most sacred meditational sites in bhutan. it is a complex of temples, meditation retreats and monk quarters. from the top you get great views of the thimphu valley.
