bumthang

literally meaning to ” bumpa-shaped valley”. “bum” is said to be the abbreviation for either “bumpa” describing the shape and the nature of the valley and thang means field or ground. it lies at an elevation of 2,600 m. it is known as spiritual heart  of bhutan as it probably has highest number of sacred sights in bhutan in a district. the valley is also famous for its production of honey, cheese, apple & yathra- a woolen material that has multiple uses. it consists of the four valleys – ura, chumey, tang and choekhor, although often the entire district is known as bumthang.
