pakhui wildlife sanctuary is situated on foothills of eastern himalayas. it was declared a tiger reserve in 2002 and became famous as pakke tiger reserve. the reserve houses over 300 flowering plant species along with orchids. being a tiger reserve, it is home to tigers and leopards along with other animals like elephants, deers and indian bison. infact atleast 40 animal species have been found here. it is also nearly 300 species of birds. the reserve has won india biodiversity award 2016 in the category of ‘conservation of threatened species’ for its hornbill nest adoption programme.
