ita fort was built in the 14th or the 15th century and the city was named after this fort. it literally means the fort of bricks as ‘ita’ means brick in the ahom language. it is an irregular construction and the total brick work is of 16,200 cubic metre length. more than 80 lakh bricks were used to build this historical fort.
