deepor beel

deepor beel, a freshwater lake located in the south western part of guwahati. beel in assamese means lake. it is home to good variety of birds which includes the kingfisher, fishing eagle, whistling teal and pintail. some of birds are migratory birds. among animals there are snakes, turtle, tortoise, lizards and many species of fishes. spread across 40 sq. km of which 4.14 sq. km is declared as a bird sanctuary by assam government in 1989. there is a watch tower inside the sanctuary, constructed by the forest department. also, country boats are available to watch the birds. october to march is the best season to visit this place.
