kaziranga national park, home to one-horned rhinoceros, is located on the edge of eastern himalayan biodiversity hotspots – golaghat and nagaon district. in 1985 the park was declared as world heritage site by unesco. it houses more than 2400 indian one-horned rhinoceros which is around 2/3rd of their’s total world population. it also has the one of highest density of tigers among the protected area of the world and is breeding ground for elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. infact the part has been recognised as tiger reserve in 2006. it is also an important bird area and is home to lot of migratory birds, water birds, predators and game birds. the landscape here includes tall grasses, short grasses, open jungle, swamps, rivers and water bodies and sand.

the park offer host of activities like

• birding
• observation towers for wild life viewing
• guided tours by elephant and jeep safaris. the safari timings are as under:
  • jeep safari (maximum 5 persons are allowed in one jeep)
    • morning: 8:00 am to 10:00 am
    • afternoon: 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm
  • elephant safari
    • morning: 5:30 am to 6:30 am
    • morning: 6:30 am to 7:30 am

park remains closed from 01 may till 31 oct every year for the visitors due to monsoons. hence november to april is the best time to visit the park.
