nameri national park

aruguably one of the most important reason to visit tezpur, this 200 kms national park is home to some of the rarest species of flora and fauna. it is about 35 kms from tezpur and is located on the foothills of eastern himalayas in sonitpur district. pakhui sanctuary which is in arunachal pradesh adjoins this park. together they have over 1000 sq kms of semi evergreen, moist deciduous forests. with over 300 species of birds, it is bird watcher’s paradise and is best sighting sight for white winged duck. it was also declared as tiger reserve in 1999-2000 and as a national park in 1998. river jiyabharali which flows down through the park provides wide opportunities for adventure sports like rafting. infact rafting is a major attraction here.

 

some of the activities that can be done here include:

  • nature trails organized by forest authorities and accompanied by armed forest guards is a good way for bird watching
  • rafting on gentle rapids of jia-bhoroli river is for entire family and a pleasant way to see birds like ibisbill and long-billed plover. the rafting usually starts 13 kms. upstream and takes about 3 hours to complete without halts
