beautiful landscapes, lush-green tea gardens, think forest cover, all around greenery, kind-hearted people, assam has lot of elements to satisfy your tourists buds. it is less travelled and less explored and has recently come in tourism map. it is a top bio diversity hot spot and has wide range of flora and fauna to offer. it is particularly famous as one of the few spots in the country where you can spot the endangered one horned rhinoceros.

based on the physical features, assam can be divided into three subdivisions:

brahmaputra valley which is 80 to 100 kms (approx) wide and around 1000 kms long. major cities in this region includes guwahati, dibrugarh, jorhat, nagaon, bongaigaon, tinsukia and tezpur. majority of population in this valley are hindus speaking assamese language. this region contains some of the most fertile soils.

barak valley is located in southern region of assam and is a small valley with an average width of 40 to 50 kms. silchar is the main city in this valley. the main language of this region is bengali

hilly region which sperates the above two region and mainly comprises of hills of karbi anglong and dima hasao district along with hills in and around guwahati.

assam is mainly an agricultural state with around 69% of population involved in it. it is a major tea producer producing more than 50% of india’s production. there are around 765 tea estates which cover approximately 312 thousand hectares of land. assam celebrates a tea festival called “the tea festival of assam” in jorhat between november-january every year. assam produces some of the world’s best teas.

another key economic activity in assam is production of crude oil and natural gas in india. it has today 4 refineries with a total capacity of 7 million tones a year
