during your travel, food are best way to connect with people. bhutanese food can be a big mystery for a lot of people as they all will find it difficult to name most of the dishes. a typical platter in bhutan will be bursting with vibrant colours. some of the staple dishes are:

  • ema datsi , national dish of bhutan which is a combination of cheese and fiery chillies. so popular is the dish that you would probably find it in every meal you have. any interesting thing which you will feel, is no two ema datsi tastes same
  • kewa datsi, a pretty mild dish which is a combination of potatoes and cheese.
  • shamu datsi which is a combination of mushrooms of any variety and cheese.
  • shakam datsi, a combination of dry beef and cheese
  • shakam paa, a fiery combination of dry beef with chillies
  • phaksha paa, again a fiery combination of chillies but this time with pork.
  • momos, stuffed dumplings popularly eaten across himalayas and known as a tibetan food. they can be found everywhere, in restaurants or as street foods. they can be either steamed or fried.
  • ezay, any kind of pickles or sauce of bhutanese chillies. again so popular is the dish that you will find ezay literary with every meal. no two ezays can taste the same,
  • suja, a unique salty butter tea.
  • red rice, similar to brown rice but extremely nutritious and filling. when cooked it is of pale pink colour, soft and slightly sticky.
