khamsum yulley monastery: sitting high above punakha valley on top of a ridge, this four storied temple is famous for offering one of the best views of punakha valley. built by queen mother and dedicated to the king this monastery took over a period of 9 years for completion. bhutanese craftsmen consulted holy scriptures rather than engineering manuals. it takes an hour to hike to the temple passing through rice fields on the way. in the summer or during the rainfall, the trails could be muddy and slippery.
