thimphu inspite of being a capital and the largest city of bhutan is an intriguing destination. it lies at an elevation of 2,350 mts and has a population of around a lac. it became capital of bhutan in 1961 by his majesty the 3rd druk gyalpo jigme dorji wagchuk. it is home to few of the most important official buildings and institutes in bhutan and main centre of commerce. it probably has the highest sightseeing places in bhutan. one of the key reputation which thimphu enjoys is that does not have any traffic lights. the main traffic intersection is manned by smartly uniformed policeman.  inspite of being bhutan’s most modern city still you can see everywhere traits of bhutanese art, architecture and culture. an interesting combination of tradition and modernity can be witnessed here. it has abundance of restaurants, internet cafes, nightclubs and shopping centres. and is one of the few cities of bhutan which has atm facilities.
