tashichho dzong

tashichho dzong (located on western banks of wang chhu river, thimphu): one of most popular landmark in thimphu, this massive fortress built in 1641 by zhabdrung ngawang namgyal  and rebuilt in 1965 by third king of bhutan his majesty jigme dorji wangchuck in the traditional style, without plans or nails. it is also known as “fortress of the glorious religion” or thimphu dzong and opens after 5 pm. inside the dzong there are offices of some ministries, his majesty’s secretariat, and the central monk body. this dzong is a perfect example of how intricate bhutanese architecture is and is one of the biggest dzongs of bhutan that has the finest classical architecture of bhutan. there is beautiful garden that surround the dzong.
