ta dzong: this watch tower overlooking the trongsa dzong has now being converted into a heritage museum. this circular five storied building was built by the first governor of trongsa, choeje minjur tenpa, in 1652. some of the important items on display are bronze statue of pema lingpa (which is said to be made by himself), age old dance and ritual costumes, ancient prayer books, paintings, textiles, etc.

 

trongsa dzong: this largest dzong of bhutan built by chogyal minjur tempa and later enlarged at the end of the 17th century by desi tenzin rabgay is an important administrative building. it is the seat of power over central and eastern bhutan. trongsa dzong is the ancestral home of the present royal family. the dzong is a massive structure with many levels, sloping down the contours of the ridge on which it is built.

 

thruepang palace: situated just above the road not far from trongsa dzong, this palace is the place where third king, his majesty jigme dorji wangchuck, was born in 1928. most of his early childhood days were spend here.
