it is one of the largest districts in bhutan with an area coverage of about 4300 sq. kms and altitude ranging from 800 m to 5800 m. punakha and wangdue is located in the same valley. it starts from about 13 kms away from punakha and is the last town of western bhutan before you enter into the central part of bhutan. the famous phobjikha valley or gangtey valley is located in wangdue district. this district is also famous for its fine bamboo products, slate and stone carvings.
