culinary delights

meghalaya food mainly comprises of rice and curries (vegetarian or non vegetarian). some of the major dishes offered here are:

 

  • jadoh, a dish of khasi community, is made with rice and pork mixed with spices, cut vegetables garnished with egg or fried fish.
  • dohkhlieh, pork salad, made with boiled pork mixed with onions, chillies, spices and salt.
  • nakhmam bitchi– a tasty soup served as a starters which is made of dried fish and flavored with a spices having a tangy taste
  • dohneiiong made of cooked pork with black sesame seeds and soya sauce is a khasi delicacy. it is served with thick gravy flavored with chillies, pepper, onions etc
  • pudoh, a dish made of boiled powdered rice with added pork chops had along with a curry to enhance the flavor
  • pumaloi, means powdered frice with has been steamed had with curries which are popular with khasi people.
  • minil songa, a preparation of a sticky rice with nutty flavors having high amount of starch.
