meghalaya, meaning the “abode of clouds” is a beautiful hill station that has captured the imagination of tourists all across the globe. it is located in northeast of india in eastern himalayas. it shares border to assam in north and east and with bangladesh to its south and east side.

the terrain of the state is mountainous with large stretches of lush green valleys and high plateaus. the elevation of plateaus ranges from 150 m to 1961 m. the state landscapes are filled with hills, green valleys, lakes, beautiful waterfalls, dark caves, and sacred forests.

with 75% of population being christians, it is one of the few states where christians are in majority. english is the official language here. other languages spoken include khasi, garo, pnar, bengali, nepali, war, hindi, hajong and assamese. more than 80% of the population here depend upon agriculture as a source of their livelihood. rice is the dominant food grain crop. the state is also rich in natural resources like coal, granite etc.
