narayanhiti royal palace museum: when in 2008 nepal ceased to be a monarchy, the royal palace was converted into a museum which was inaugurated by the then prime minister girija prasad koirala. the palace show cases the lifestyle of royal family. the family of the then king birendra shah was massacred inside the palace, but that part of the palace has now been demolished. cameras and bags are prohibited inside the complex.

Also located near museum there is kesher library which has got a huge and rare collection of books and manuscripts collected during the last century. it is open for the public during normal office hours.
