bhaktapur

at an altitude of 1,401 m, also known as “the city of devotees” covers an area of four square miles. it lies about 14 km east of kathmandu on the way to nagarkot and is one of the three cities which traditionally formed part of kathmandu valley. it is also known as bhadgaon. the city is packed with temples, pagodas, monuments, courtyard, squares, traditional houses, artistic stones, taps, buddhist shrines and many more built in different times of the history. it offers visitors the opportunity to closely study ancient architecture, arts and culture of lichhavi and malla kingdoms. bhaktapur might be smallest district of nepal but it is the richest in terms of its varied tourist attraction. it is considered as living museum where one can witness ancient traditions which are carried out even today as they were centuries ago like potters square where the local potters use age old techniques to make clay utensils.
