dattratreya square: the third most visited place in bhaktapur, this area has good collection of historic monuments and temples. some of attractions here include:

  • dattratreya temple: huge three storied temple of dattratreya, a god which is combination of three main hindu gods, brahma, vishnu and shiva, considered as one of oldest temples in bhaktapur built by king yaksha malla in 1427 which is believed to have been built from the trunk of a single tree. the base of the temple consists of erotic scenes. durbar square is about 10 minutes from here.
  • bhimsen temple: west of dattratreya temple, this bhimsen temple dedicated to lord bhimsen of pandavas was built in 1605.
  • pujari math /peacock window: literally meaning priest’s house is now converted to wood carving museum. built by king yaksha malla in 15th century this was originally used for storing donations and contributions. famous peacock window of 15th century is situated on the second floor of eastern side of this house. each and every windows and doors here have different designs carved on them.
