the most popular mountain of pokhara is sarangkot, nestled high up on north ridge of phewa lake. the place is famous for great view of the pokhara valley and the magnificent view of the mountains. from here on clear sunny days you can see panoramic views of annapurna, manasalu, ganesh himal, dhaulagiri, machhapuchare and 25 other mountains over 6,000 m high. most people come here at dawn, when the sun rises from peaks, transforming them from a purple-pink to gold. there is also a ruined fort at kaskikot which is an one-hour walk west of sarangkot along the ridge road, with breath-taking views. it also offers paragliding facilities. it can be reached easily by 45 to 60 minutes drive by car from pokhara. most of the tourists come to sarangkot for sunrise view and go back.
