lachen, located about 120 kms from gangtok at an altitude of 8838 ft , it is a scenic mountain village and home to the lachenpas, a unique sikkimese bhutia community.  lachen, which literally means big pass. the valley has almost everything which could be offered to a traveller – snow-clad mountains, lakes, valley of flora, fauna and a vibrant local culture. as with all the areas in north sikkim, travel to lachen requires permits, being close to the china border.

• chopta valley at on altitude of 4023 mtrs is located on the way to gurudongmar lake.  the place offers majestic view of snow-capped mountains, its slopes covered with pine forests which is a riot of colors during summer months. the valley is frozen during the winter where we can walk over the frozen rivers.
• gurudongmar lake is one of the highest fresh-water lakes in the world, located at a height of 17,800 ft and about 70 kms from lachen. this is considered to be a very sacred lake. as per the legends this most of this lake remains frozen during the winters except one of its portion which never freezes as it is blessed by guru padmasambhava only indian tourists are allowed to visit gurudongmar lake.
