ravangla at an elevation of 7,000 feet, is located on the way from gangtok to pelling in south sikkim, ravangla is famous for its buddha park with a towering 130 foot golden buddha statue surrounded by beautiful gardens. it is also popular for bird watchers and it is home to some of most rare and endangered birds in the world. the key places of interest includes:

 

buddha park also known as tathagata tsal features a 130-foot high statue of the buddha as its centerpiece. the statue was consecrated on 25 march 2013 by the 14th dalai lama. the statue of the buddha marks the occasion of the 2550th birth anniversary of gautama buddha.

 

bon monastery located in kewzing, a short distance from ravangla, this monastery was built by yung dung tsultrim in 1980. it is one of the two monasteries in india belonging to the bon sect of buddhism. it displays some of the artefacts of buddhists, paintings, buddha deities, and gives a glimpse of the daily routine of the young monks of the bon sect.

 

ralang monastery, is a unique monastery in sikkim and unlike other monasteries it has a stark symmetry of form combined with brilliant execution in construction. another differentiator is that this monastery is accessible only via trekking. located at 13km from ravangla, it is a symbol of opulence of buddhists, built around a legend. as per legend, upon return of the fourth chogyal (king) of sikkim, the karmapa sprinkled a few rice grains of blessings in tibet, some of which fell at the site of the current monastery. thus, the monastery was built here.

 

ralong hot springs, popularly known as “ralong cha chu” locally, are natural hot springs near ravangla. considered to be natural saunas, these are pools of warm sulphurous water that have therapeutic powers.
