owing to its location, sikkim enjoys three types of weather conditions – sub-tropical, tundra and temperate. tundra is a climatic condition where because of cold weather for most of the year tree grown is hindered and there are less growing season. sub-tropical climate is mainly found in south and tundra in north. barring this most of the sikkim falls under temperate climate where the maximum temperature never exceeds 28°c. north sikkim (tundra climate) is snow bound for around 4 months in a year where the night temperature goes below 0°c.

the average temperature in summers is around 5°c to 20°c. during monsoons, the temperature drops down to around 4°c – 15°c. the northern part of sikkim has an autumn season, which begins in september and continues until october. the temperature ranges from 15°c to 20°c. during winters the average day time temperatures range from – 5°c to 7°c, with night getting colder.
